Just see the last articles by professor Luis Umbelino, or the works by professor Rainer E Zimmermann already published in this same review architectonics some months ago. Also the change in the cancer therapies going from the study of the tumour to the study of the metastasis indicates profound mental and cultural changes. We are not aware of the significance of these changes, as we have not been aware of the origin of the innovative forces in the Bauhaus, thanks to their inter-disciplinary, inter-cultural and inter-artistic dimensions. We should began to understand that architecture is not an isolated knowledge; it depends upon a physical, social and cultural environment where architecture and urban planning can develop in many directions, and improve it.
- Artificial intelligence and architectural design: An introductionMuntañola Thornberg, José; Saura Carulla, Magdalena; Cocho, Ana; Beltran Borràs, Júlia; Navarro, Diego; Vogiatzaki, Maria; Spiridonidis, Constantin; Foroughi, Mahda; Andrade, Bruno de; Roders, Ana PereiraThe aim of this book on artificial intelligence for architects and designers is to guide future designers, in general, and architects, in particular, to support the social and cultural wellbeing of the humanity in a digital and global environment. This objective is today essential but also extremely large, interdisciplinary and interartistic, so we have done just a brief introduction of the subject. We will start with the argument fixed by the Professor Jonas Langer in his web some years ago, that we have defined as: “The Langer’s Tree”.
- Arquitectura y educación: Architecture and educationMuntañola Thornberg, José; Saura Carulla, Magdalena; Jordán, Almudena; Camús, Enna; Messori, Rita; Estany, Ana; Puig-Pey Clavería, Ana María; Davì, Emanuela; Capdevila Castellanos, Iván; Iborra Pallarés, Vicente; Franquesa Sànchez, Jordi; Silvestro Geuna, Josemaría; Rivera Rivero, María Gabriela; Oulmane-Bendani, Nabila; Pedrós Fernández, Óscar; Prieto López, Juan Ignacio; Navarro Martínez, Virginia; Nielsen, JohanThe crucial challenges of the architecture and planning designs today: the climatic changes, the fast growing urbanisation of the environments, the financial crisis, the impact of design by computer, the need of knowledge basic designs etc, all these challenges can be the starting point for an architectural education renewal. Our proposal can be, then, optimistic, in the middle of a very complex and difficult scenario. Sometimes, the worst scenarios can be the seed for radical innovation, and we will try to describe this possibility of positive changes in architectural education, if, and only if, some conditions are accomplished. The work has three parts: first, a pedagogic meditation taking into account the last ideas about how our body and our mind behave in order to know challenges of a general architectural education to day. The second part, it is the consideration of design as a responsive "creative chronotope", using the definitions of the late Russian thinker Mikhail Bakhtin, in order to take advantage of our professional circumstances today. And, finally, the third part, will deal with the institutional aspect of architectural education and with the need for new "scenarios" for more effective schools of architecture in our universities.
